Join us on June 23rd, 7-8:30 pm EST for our next webinar: Back Up and Let Me Be: Giving a Character’s Voice Space to Grow with Leah Henderson

Hello Members,

We are pleased to be able to offer a third webinar to the region to help us continue to grow as creators of books for children, even in the midst of this difficult time when we still cannot gather in person.  Award winning author and writing professor Leah Henderson, who also is a member of the SCBWI Mid-Atlantic region, will present a talk entitled “Back Up and Let Me Be: Giving a Character’s Voice Space to Grow” on June 23, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm EST. Leah will help us look at the delicate balance between the relationship of an author’s voice and a character’s voice and explore how elements such as rhythm, life-experience, and word choice play into letting a character’s voice grow into that undeniable, unputdownable soul of story.

Leah is the author of the middle grade novels THE MAGIC IN CHANGING YOUR STARS and ONE SHADOW ON THE WALL, an Africana Children’s Award notable and a Bank Street Best Book. Her picture books include MAMIE ON THE MOUND and the forthcoming DAY FOR REMEMBERIN’ and TOGETHER WE MARCH.  Leah holds an MFA in Writing and is on the faculty at Spalding University’s graduate writing program.
