Join us for a night of first pages! Agents Kelly Dyksterhouse and Jacqui Lipton from Raven Quill Literary will workshop pre-submitted first pages from picture books, chapter books, middle grade, young adult, and nonfiction projects in real-time. Excerpts of attendees’ works-in-progress will be read aloud while the agents make brief comments on craft (e.g. hook, character, voice, story arc). After each submission, they will tell the group what worked for them and what didn’t, whether or not they’d continue reading and why, and suggest what might be done to improve the piece. These will be quick assessments, not detailed critiques. First pages will also be shared on the screen so attendees can follow along.
We’ll spend about 5 minutes on each randomly selected first page. Due to time constraints, not everyone who submits a manuscript ahead of time will have it critiqued. We will close out the webinar with a general Q&A.

Meet your speakers!
Kelly Dyksterhouse, M.F.A, joined Raven Quill Literary Agency a year ago after 8 years working at various positions at both large and small literary agencies. She holds an M.F.A. from Vermont College of Fine Arts and represents clients who write the across spectrum from picture books to young adult, both fiction and non-fiction. She considers the opportunity to help bring books into the hands of children to be a great honor, and it is a particular joy for her to work alongside authors as they develop their project from idea to polished manuscripts.
Jacqui Lipton, M.F.A., Ph.D. is a literary agent, attorney and law professor who specializes in the business side of the publishing industry and represents clients from picture book through adult. She is the founding agent at Raven Quill Literary Agency and also writes her own (adult) nonfiction.
