2022 Fall Conference Consultations

Manuscript and Portfolio Consultation Information:

Manuscript, PB Dummy, and Portfolio Consultations are being offered two ways this year:

If you register for the in-person conference: Consultations are in-person throughout the weekend with the in-person faculty.

If you register just for the limited virtual-only conference: Phone consultations will be late afternoons/evenings from October 17-19 and afternoons of October 22-23 with the virtual faculty. Virtual-only attendees will be given initial preference for these consults which may open to in-person attendees if they do not fill. Your reviewer will call you for your phone consultation on the day and time you select when you register. You must be available at that time. If you miss your call, we are not able to reschedule. PLEASE NOTE: Your reviewer may call you from a phone number that shows as “Unknown Caller” on caller ID. Please be aware of this and answer your phone at the scheduled time.

Both types of consultations are available for a fee of $65. To reserve a spot, you must first register for the conference you are attending (in-person or virtual-only) AND email your manuscript, PB Dummy, or portfolio link. (Instructions for emailing are below.)

When you register, you will be able to choose your reviewer and one fifteen-minute slot. You will only be able to see reviewers and time slots that are still available. Agents and editor slots frequently sell out quickly, so register early. You may only register for one consultation. Failure to follow the instructions below may mean missing out on your consultation. No refunds will be given.

Please read the following BEFORE registering:

Review the bios of the manuscript and portfolio consultants here. Select one or two as a back-up in case your first choice is no longer available. Take note of the conference schedule since you may miss a small portion of the panels/sessions if the faculty you sign up for is doing consultations at those times. Time slots cannot be changed once you are registered. TAKE NOTE OF THE TIME SLOT YOU SELECTED.

For all reviews, you will receive written feedback through an evaluation “Gold Form” which highlights your manuscript’s, dummy’s, or portfolio’s strengths and weaknesses. It will be emailed to you a few days prior to the conference. Please print this form and bring it along with your manuscript, dummy, or portfolio to refer to it during your session. Faculty will not bring copies of their own.

Once your registration is complete, email your review materials to midatlanticscbwiconsults@gmail.com by SEPTEMBER 20, 2022 per these instructions:

For Portfolio reviews, please email a link to your portfolio. The subject line should include the name of your reviewer and your name, i.e: FacultyName_YourName_Portfolio Review. DO NOT attach any images.

For PB Dummy reviews, please email the dummy as a pdf attachment. Name your dummy using this format: Title_YourName_PBDummy.pdf, i.e:
GoodnightMoon_MargaretBrown_PBDummy.pdf. The subject line for your email should be the name of your reviewer, followed by your name, and PBdummy, i.e: FacultyName_YourName_PBDummy Review.

For Manuscript reviews, please email the first 10 pages of your manuscript and synopsis, if necessary (see below), as ONE document:

Your 10 pages should be double spaced and in 12 point Arial or Times New Roman font. Please see FORMATTING GUIDELINES* below for further details, if necessary.

You must name your WORD DOC or .DOCX using the following format: Title_FullName_Genre.doc, i.e.: TheHungerGames_SuzanneCollins_YA.doc

Please make sure your name and email is at the top of the first page of your document. If you don’t include your contact info, you may not receive your feedback prior to the conference. (Cover pages are not necessary.)

For chapter books, MG, and YA please include a brief synopsis. The synopsis does not count as part of the 10 page limit, but it must be included as part of ONE document. (PB submissions, including NF PBs, do not need to include a synopsis.)

In the subject line of your email place the name of your reviewer first, followed by your name, the name of your book, and the genre, i.e.: Sara Sargent_Suzanne Collins_THE HUNGER GAMES_YA.

*FORMATTING GUIDELINES: Manuscripts should be double spaced and with 12 point Arial or Times New Roman. All submissions must include your contact information on
the first page, similar to this example:

For picture books, submit the complete text of ONE picture book.

For chapter books and novels, submit only the first 10 pages, even if it cuts off mid-chapter. Include a one-page, single-spaced synopsis as part of the document. (The document will be 11 pages total because of the synopsis.)
Manuscripts received after the September 20 deadline will not be forwarded to reviewers. All submissions are final. Once you send in your pages you may not send in updates.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Due to the sheer number of manuscript consultations, we cannot make any changes to consultation times or reviewer assignments. If you have any questions, please email Jess Stork at jess.stork@gmail.com or Deb Shumaker at dkshumaker@gmail.com. Include MANUSCRIPT CONSULTATION QUESTION as the subject of your email.
